How We Work

PARTNERSHIPS

We work in partnership with our clients to deliver responsible, sustainable water services. United Water also forms alliances with asset owners, construction contractors and other organisations with specialist capabilities, to deliver major projects.

Adelaide

United Water works in partnership with SA Water to provide water and wastewater services to Adelaide’s 1.1 million residents. We are responsible for the management, operation and maintenance of Adelaide’s water, wastewater and recycled water treatment plants, and the city’s water and wastewater network infrastructure.

Ballarat: Central Highlands Water

United Water works in partnership with Central Highlands Water to operate and maintain water treatment facilities in Ballarat and the surrounding towns of Beaufort, Blackwood, Clunes and Forest Hill, serving a total of 105,000 people. We also constructed and now operate the new Ballarat North Water Reclamation Plant, treating one third of Ballarat’s wastewater and delivering positive environmental outcomes for the region.

New Zealand

United Water operates across seven regions of New Zealand: Papakura, Ruapehu, Thames-Coromandel, Wellington, Waitomo and Franklin on the North Island; and in Queenstown on the South Island. Through effective management, operation and maintenance of water and wastewater treatment plants and networks, we serve the needs of more than 350,000 New Zealanders.

OUR WORKFORCE

To service the increasing demands brought about by population growth and development in all our contract areas, we are continually expanding our engineering and design capacity. All United Water engineering and design professionals gain extensive experience across a broad range of contracts and projects. Commonly, our professional staff take short or long-term secondment to contracts interstate, in New Zealand and other overseas locations through our parent company, Veolia Water. Continuous training and development initiatives such as our Professional Development Program, Graduate Program and International Exchange Program ensure that both new and existing employees are constantly updating their skills and experience.

SAFETY

With 75 percent of our workforce employed in operational roles, we have a primary focus on workplace safety. Our Lost Time Injury Frequency Rate is among the lowest of any comparable industry. Adoption of Mobil’s Take Five safety process has generated further improvements. In recognition of our outstanding safety performance, in July 2008 United Water was awarded the highly sought after 3-Year Renewal for self-insured employers by State insurer WorkCover SA.
